Modern technology allows us to turn goold old flat Ontario into a mountainous playground. Altitudes of 6,000' are possible while towing with out hydraulic steptowing mountain.
Attached to the tow line, secured to the glider. Skilled pilots are whisked off the earth, some at record climbing paces. Much like flying a kite the pilot positions his or her glider directly into the wind. We pull out approx 2,000' of "spectra" line (braided nylon rope). On the pilots command the line begins to pull almost immediately lifting into the air soaring towards the clouds pilots will guide his/her glider to altitude.
Depending on the weather, experienced pilots have sustained flights well into 3hrs on one single tow. One thing to realize is gliders can rise in thermal air or large pockets of warm air heated by the sun warming darker areas first.
